Odoo Development and Functional Consulting
The most valuable judgement in Odoo work is knowing when not to write code. A requirement that looks like a custom module is frequently a configuration option, a Studio field, an automated action or an existing community addon. Consultants who reach for Python first produce systems that are expensive to maintain and painful to upgrade. That judgement is taught explicitly, before any development.
Inheritance is the core technical skill. Odoo's extension model lets a developer modify delivered behaviour without touching delivered code, and the difference between a practitioner who uses it properly and one who overrides carelessly shows up two years later at upgrade time. Delegates work through all three inheritance mechanisms until the choice between them is automatic.
Upgrade discipline runs throughout. Odoo ships annually, and a custom estate that ignores this accumulates until migration becomes a rewrite. Delegates learn to write addons that survive version changes and to plan a migration from an existing version.
Delegates build a complete custom application across the course: models, views, security, reports, a web portal and an integration, deployed to a running instance.

Who should attend
Aimed at both technical and functional practitioners. Delegates can weight their focus toward development or consulting.
- Python developers moving into ERP development
- Odoo functional consultants wanting technical depth
- ERP consultants adding Odoo to an existing SAP or Oracle background
- Business analysts implementing Odoo for their own organisation
- Developers maintaining an inherited Odoo estate
- Partners and resellers building delivery capability
- Technical leads planning a migration to Odoo 19
Assumed knowledge: for the development modules, working Python and basic SQL; XML familiarity helps. For the functional modules, understanding of standard business processes such as order to cash or procure to pay. Delegates without Python should take the AppSolWorld Python course first if they intend to focus on development. No prior Odoo experience is required.
