Google Cloud Architect

Google Cloud Architect

The four published case studies are treated as core curriculum, not revision material. Delegates work through each one in a dedicated session, produce a written architecture for it, and defend their service choices against the scenario's stated constraints. By exam day they should be able to answer case study questions from prepared reasoning rather than from scratch under time pressure.

Service selection depth is the second focus. It is not enough to know what BigQuery does; the exam asks when BigQuery rather than Spanner, Bigtable or AlloyDB, and expects the answer to follow from workload characteristics. Comparative service selection is taught as a decision framework across compute, storage, data and networking.

Networking and IAM get more attention than their nominal weighting suggests. Shared VPC, VPC Service Controls, custom roles and organisation policies appear in detail, and they are where candidates with hands-on GCP experience but no design experience most often come unstuck.

Delegates build in their own GCP project throughout, but the emphasis is on design justification rather than console familiarity. This exam rewards being able to explain why, not how.

Who should attend

Aimed at practitioners who will design Google Cloud solutions and justify those designs against business constraints.

  • Cloud architects adding GCP to an AWS or Azure background
  • Infrastructure and platform engineers moving into design roles
  • Data engineers architecting pipelines on Google Cloud
  • Senior developers making architecture decisions already
  • Consultants and pre-sales staff needing defensible GCP knowledge
  • Delegates building toward multicloud capability

Assumed knowledge: general cloud and infrastructure experience including networking, storage and identity concepts. Google recommends three or more years of industry experience with at least one year designing Google Cloud solutions. There is no formal prerequisite, though Associate Cloud Engineer knowledge is a useful foundation. Delegates entirely new to cloud should take an associate-level course first.
